Welcome to my weekly variety hour, wherein I pull together thought-provoking and interesting posts from around the interwebz.
I can think of at least five books on happiness I’ve wanted to read but haven’t gotten around to. I’m not sure why it always gets put off. Time constraints, perhaps, or my aversion to anything that seems too woo-woo. However, I found NPR’s interview with Dan Buettner, author of Thrive, quite compelling, especially as I delve into some big questions myself.
Speaking of NPR interviews, I found Terry Gross’ interview with Jay Z on Fresh Air quite fascinating. He is intelligent and well-spoken, but obviously not the type of interviewee that Gross is used to.
And since I’m on the topic of audio interviews, if you haven’t heard my interview with poet and wonderful human being Susan Wooldridge, you really are missing out. Check out out:[audio: http://yaelwrites.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Woolridge_Interview_Part_1.mp3]
Shameless self-promotion: If you are an MMA fan, you are probably just as appalled by the ridiculous officiating that took place during the TUF finale. I have two pieces up about it on MMA HQ: an interview with Nam Phan and a piece on accountability for MMA judges, which includes a recap of the back-and-forth battle of words between color commentator Joe Rogan and NSAC executive director Keith Kizer.
Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you all next week!
