Quick Weekend Reads: Two Posts, One Mag & One Twitter Feed to Keep Your Eye On

May 18, 2012 By Yael Grauer Leave a Comment

I typically post links to my own articles and posts (or ones where I’ve been mentioned) on Wednesdays, but thought these would be fun weekend reads (and one in particular is time-sensitive.) There is something for everyone… Whether you’re an MMA enthusiast, a BJJ fan, a conference attendee or a creative entrepreneur, take a look…

Networking, Pitching, Marketing, Tweeting & More

Yesterday, I posted a beautiful guest post by Laura Orsini. I also wrote a guest post for her blog, titled Put Your Best Foot Forward When Pitching Editors, Agents and Corporate Clients. If you want to avoid simple mistakes and make the best of your pitches, I hope you’ll check it out.

On a similar theme, the fabulous Rachel Weingarten wrote the post Are You a Business Conference Cliché? for her Mint.com style column. It’s beautifully written, and not just because she quoted me in the section on live tweeting. If you attend conferences, make sure to read it. Rachel, who works as a style expert and marketing strategist, can also be found on her own website,  racheletc.com.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

If you’re a grappling fan, you won’t want to miss my article on multi-time world champ and Alliance black belt Lucas Lepri in the May/June issue of Jiu Jitsu Style! The article delves into his training (past and present), tips for those who want to successfully compete at the highest levels, the way he’s gotten comfortable in all positions, and, of course, his take on the perpetual gi vs. no-gi debate. All this is in issue #8 of the magazine, which you can buy online here. And if you have an iPad or Android tablet, you can pick it up digitally as well. Or, buy a digital issue you can view on your computer!

MMA

I work as the Weekend Editor at leading MMA website Sherdog.com, and I will be live tweeting during the Strikeforce fights tonight (Saturday), alongside about two dozen staff writers and freelancers. (I’m pretty sure I’m the only woman.) Many will be scoring the bouts, and the rest of us will be chiming in. If you’re an MMA fan, join the conversation! Follow along on the main page, or check out the twitter list here: https://twitter.com/#!/sherdogdotcom/sherdogdotcom. I’m @yaelwrites, so make sure to say hi! (And if you’re not an MMA fan, please ignore my spamming your Twitter feed for a few short hours.)

And now back to your regularly scheduled Saturday!

I want to get posts like this delivered to my inbox.
